Since it opened in February 2013, the Shard has become an instant hit with visitors to the capital and has already become a familiar part of the London skyline. So when they were looking for a portable and flexible bar solution to keep its visitors to the 69th floor refreshed as they stared in wonder at the amazing views, they decided that Oasis Bars fitted the bill.
Oasis Bars were approached by the owners to provide a bar that could serve different purposes, including acting as a Champagne bar.
“They wanted a solution that would allow multiple uses for the portable bar. And with space at such a premium on the 69th floor, the ability for the unit to be folded away was important.”
In fact the bar packs a lot into its compact size. It is just 150cm long, 110cm high and 60cm deep – small enough to fit into almost any space, but big enough to handle reasonable volumes of drinks.
Oasis recommended the ‘Bar in a Box’ which can be folded away after use. The Shard logo was added to the front, created a striking impression for visitors.
The Bar in a Box is often popular with hotels who operate event in locations that don’t normally have a bar. It can also be taken outside and set up for drinks on sunny days.
“We’ve dispatched mobile bar units to every area of the UK and also to many countries around the world”, says Oasis Bars MD Bob Grenham, “but this is certainly the highest that one of our bars has ever ended up.”
The ‘Bar in a Box’ has already been used for a number of different events at The Shard, including a series of silent discos. Visitors enjoy the music through headphones whilst enjoying views over the capital and drinks from Oasis’s temporary bar.

he adds. The viewing platform of The Shard is in fact twice the height of any other in London.
Oasis Bars manufacture portable bars for flexible use in venues such as hotels, golf courses and marquees. They have provided bars that have been used inside the Arctic Circle, on race courses and at cricket grounds.
